Resumen intro: Es el año 2356 AD. 189 años después de la global catástrofe causada por una distante supernova, en donde murió el 99% de la población mundial. Para mantener con atención las actividades espaciales, la humanidad construyó colosales estaciones espaciales llamadas “Fundations” en todo el sistema solar. Después de pasar los exámenes de entrada a la Academia Espacial, Shima Katase se embarca para una de las bases de la Fundación Stellvia, para lograr su sueño de ver la galaxia e impedir otra catástrofe interestelar de destruir la tierra.
